Westmoreland Cultural Trust will host a celebration Friday, September 2 at 11 a.m. commemorating the 90^th Anniversary of The Palace Theatre at the historic venue, located at 21 West Otterman Street, Greensburg PA.  Government officials including Erin Molchany (Southwest Director for Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf), U.S. Congressman Tim Murphy, PA State Senator Kim Ward, PA State Representative Eric Nelson, PA State Representative Mike Reese, and Westmoreland County Commissioners Ted Kopas, Charles Anderson and Gina Cerilli will join in the ceremony recognizing the theatre’s contribution to the arts in Westmoreland County for the past 90 years.   Each will present a proclamation to Trust President Mike Langer to commemorate this milestone.

Immediately following the ceremony, tours of The Palace Theatre will begin at 12 p.m. This one-hour tour will include interesting facts and trivia about the former Manos Theatre, a vaudeville and movie house.  Guests will explore the many architectural and artistic features of the theatre such as the beautifully restored murals of fairytales painted by acclaimed Chicago artist Louis Grell, and a Vermont marble staircase that leads to the theater’s second floor, which boasts golden Grecian marble, classic black-and-white checkerboard floors, and Spanish inlaid tiles.  Additional tours are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, September 2 and 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10. Reservations are not needed for the tours.

Opened September 2, 1926 as The Manos Theatre, a vaudeville and movie house, The Palace now hosts the widest variety of live entertainment in the area in a beautifully renovated 1369-seat facility and welcomes 73,000+ guests annually from throughout the country, plus international visitors.
